Carl Linnaeus (with some variants of this name, such as Carl von Linné amd Carolus Linnæus) was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist born in 23 May 1707. Founder of modern zoology, having created the binominal nomenclature in 1758.

Linnaeus, besides the iconic merit of founding our current hierarchical taxonomy, described a great number of species in all larger life groups. He described 3 species of Opiliones in 2 papers and erected the genus Phalangium.
