Eumesosoma Cokendolpher, 1980 is a genus in the family Sclerosomatidae, subfamily Leiobuninae.

Taxonomy[]

  • Mesosoma Weed, 1892:187 - Junior homonym of Mesosoma Otto, 1821 (Crustacea)
  • Eumesosoma Cokendolpher, 1980:31

Type species[]

The type species (by original designation) of Mesosoma was Mesosoma nigrum Weed, 1892 (not Phalangium nigrum Say, 1821). Crawford noted the homonymy between Say's species and Weed's species, as both are now in Eumesosoma. He therefore replaced Weed's species name with its oldest available synyonym. "Thus, the valid name of the type species is Eumesosoma roeweri (Goodnight & Goodnight, 1943)." (Crawford, 1992)
